Sturbridge and Brimfield, Massachusetts, for those into antiquing, are popular spots for those living in the Greater New Haven region. Remember, Memorial Day weekend is here ... perhaps this will give you an idea on how to spend this long weekend, with, of course, a food exploration.

Always on the hunt for good locally roasted coffee, I scouted out Sturbridge Coffee Roasters (founded in 2004) and now located in Southbridge, located close to the hotel. (210 Hamilton Street, Southbridge, www.sturbridgecofeeroasters.com, 508-765-5520). The proprietor, Elvis Dyer, had a love affair with coffee, so after 30 years working as a financial advisor and auto service manager, he took the plunge and bought the business in 2014. Elvis carefully roasts small batches of beans in a beautiful Diedrich coffee roaster, so you can experience what he believes is the best cup of java you ever had. The salted caramel mocha, espresso combined with steamed milk and caramel syrup and topped off with whipped cream, is a drinkable dessert. The café menu offers breakfast and lunch fare to savor with a fresh cup of coffee.
